The latest disgusting behaviour on the part of public figures is by Sydney University Vice-Chancellor Gavin Brown who has refused to allow Sydney University to be the venue for the Sydney Peace Prize Award to Dr Hanan Ashrawi.
Apart from the cynical behaviour of Sydney Mayor Lucy Turnbull, who has refused to be connected with the prize because of her husband's attempts at preselection to Waverley in Sydney's fairly Jewish eastern suburbs area, this is the next disgusting behaviour and caving in to the Zionist lobby to occur in Sydney.
Oh how base they all are!!
So far, NSW Premier Bob Carr has not backed down, but the pressure is mounting - can he withstand it? Let us hope so, otherwise all resistance will be gone and the Zionsists will have won again.

There has been an outbreak of antagonsim against the awarding of the Sydney Peace Prize to Palestinian spokesperson Dr Hanan Ashrawi.
The Premier of New South Wales, Bob Carr, is to present the prize to Ashrawi in November 2003, and the Zionists are crying foul! The latest today, 22 October 2003, is that the Mayor of Sydney City Council, Lucy Turnbull, has condemned to awarding of the prize. Reasons become obvious when it is understood that her husband, Malcolm Turnbull, is trying to wrestle the seat of Wentworth in the NSW State Parliament from the existing Liberal Party incumbent, Peter King. This electorate is in a very Jewish area of Sydney, and of course the Turnbulls will want to get as many Jewish votes as possible.
The whole situation gets uglier and uglier as does the deterioration of the occupation of the West Bank and Gaza by the Israelis.
It is to be hoped that more and more Israeli air force and other army personnel will refuse to join the ugly war and become part of the Refuseniks group.
This is already an embarrasment to the Israelis so it should be supported by as many people as possible.
I have sent a letter of support to Bob Carr and a letter of condemnation to the Australian Jewish News (AJN). The latter will not be printed - for sure, but I intend to send more and more email letters to the AJN on this and related topics in the not too distant future.

Matthew Shepard
Westboro Baptist Church and its boss, Fred Phelps, seem to have enormous amounts of money to spend on erecting a hate monument to Matthew Shepard who was brutally murdered five years ago, in October 1998.
Fred has chosen Casper Wyoming to put the "monument" in a park there, because that was Matthew Shepard's home town. There is no hate like a poofter scorned, and it is becoming more and more likely, as the hate continues, that Phelps is a closet case.
One would like tio hope that he isn't because who would want to have someone of his ilk in the fraternity, but there have been so many others over history who are homosexual and who have been brutal in their attacks on gays and lesbians, that another more or less won't make that much difference. One just has to think of those great American citizens, J.Edgar Hoover, and one of the brutes from the McCarthy era who terrorised homosexuals, but who died of AIDS, to realise what hypocrites they all are.
Not that it makes it any better, but at least one knows that the enemy is the same as those he/she is persecuting!

HOMOPHOBIA AND RELIGION
Henry II of England (1133-1189) appointed Thomas Beckett Archbishop of Canterbury. Beckett became a thorn in Henry's side, and Henry wanted to get rid of him. Henry did not actually intend to have Beckett murdered, but four of Henry's lords had heard Henry say - or he has been quoted as having said - "WILL NO ONE RID ME OF THIS TROUBLESOME PRIEST?"
(Others quote him as saying "Who will rid me of this turbulent priest?")
Henry was taken literally and Beckett was murdered in Canterbury Cathedral on 29 December 1170.
What has this to do with homophobia and religion?
Well, recent pronouncements by the Catholic Church (October 2003) that condoms will not prevent the spread of HIV and AIDS have angered health officials around the world.
HIV/AIDS is seen as very much a disease of homosexuals and these sorts of statements aggravate an already critical situation.
The head of the Catholic church, the Pope, has expressed extreme homophobia over the 25 years he has been in his position. The Anglican Archbishop of Canterbury, the head of the Anglican church, appointed a gay dean as a bishop, and because there was a huge outcry about it, he backed down and the Dean in question decided not to take up the appointment because of what had happened. However, in the USA a gay man was appointed Bishop and his appointment has been approved. This has all occurred in 2003!
Anglican bishops on the African continent are divided on the issue. The head of the Nigerian Anglican church has protested vehemently, while the South African Anglican church head has been encouraging and supportive of gay and lesbian clergy in the church.
It is well known that Muslim clerics are virulently, viciously anti-homosexual, and in Iran and other Muslim countries, homosexuals are persecuted, prosecuted, tortured and executed.
Leaders of the Jewish religious organisations are equally homophobic, but at least are not able to carry out death sentences on homosexuals!
What we are seeing is that three of the world's major religions are causes of attacks on gays, lesbians and transgender people, and their teachings in religious schools and other organisations teach young people that it is quite in order to hate homosexuals, to attack them, either verbally, or physically, even to the extent of murdering them.
Unfortunately, in many of the latter instances where the killers are caught and end up on trial, some of the judges are themselves homophobic and accept what is known as "panic defence" to let the murderers go free - without sanction!
How are we to stop homophobia?
Obviously education is necessary at all levels of the community, but one of the first steps is to force governments to stop giving exemptions from anti-discrimination legislation to religious organisations
When that starts to happen we will know we have started on the path to eliminate this dreadful oppression of minority groups in our communities.
The latest ghastly news to come out of the world of the hypocritical religious bigots is the story from the USA about the so-called "reverend" fred phelps, who wants to erect a permanent monoment of hate about Mathew Shepard in a park. It is five years since Mathew Shepard was brutally murdered, and his two murderers were jailed for life.
This phelps monster who is so full of hate against homosexuals because it is god's word!!!! is probably a closet case himself! He keeps on quoting that selected part of his book of words called leviticus, but fails to quote all the other parts of this story which don't suit his purpose. Do these people really believe in some supernatural being or are they just doing an outward show so that they can murderously display their homophobia to the world, teach young people that it is ok to murder gay, lesbian and transgender people and god will forgive htem because they have done the right thing.
The worst part of this whole ghastly story is that the religious right in the USA are gulity of doing this to the whole world, who haven't the power or the will to stop it! Look what they are doing in relation to Israel and Palestine! So it is no wonder that the murder in the USA of a few poofters and dykes and trannies isn't going to cause tham any loss of sleep.
However, one wonders how they sometimes manage to sleep at night!!

This was a letter sent to The Age newspaper in Melbourne about two weeks ago,in response to the claim by the presidents of the Australian Zionist Federation and the Jewish Community Council of Victoria that they were both democratically elected to their positions - both claims of course being totally false. Needless to say, the editor of The Age declined to publish the letter - he is, after all, the ex-editor of the Australian Jewish News, so is not interested in biting the hand that feeds him!!

tradition and elected leaders.”
Democratic? Elected?
Two groups with whom I am associated, Jews against Oppression
and Occupation (JAOO), and Lesbian and Gay Solidarity (LGS), did
not democratically elect either of these people to their positions.
Neither of these groups voted for either of these people, and, I
believe, when a Jewish gay group applied for membership of the
JCCV, they were rejected.
When groups such as JAOO state their responses to the
Israel/Palestine conflict, they are called anti-semitic Jews.
Of the approximately 100,000 people who identify themselves as
Jews in Australia, probably about 40,000 live in Victoria.
How many Jews actually democratically elected either of these two
people to their positions, and how dare they even presume to speak
for me? I didn't vote for them and I am not aware that there were
democratic elections for either of their positions.

Parasol states that “the only ones letting us down are ignorant idealists like you, who open their mouths from Sydney and not Jerusalem.”
Sztokman's address is Caulfield and Parasol's is St Kilda. Neither of these addresses is in Israel - both are in Melbourne, Australia.
Vivienne Porszolt's comments reflect what many of us feel about the Israeli government's war against the Palestinians. The “Wall” is just another apartheid measure, and it would be more honest of the Israeli government to occupy the “occupied territories totally, once and for all, so that those of us NOT living in Israel will really see their true motivation - the original Palestine become the new Israel.
For the rest, put up or shut up! Porszolt is entitled to her analyses as are others, and they carry the same weight - we supposedly still live in a democracy!
